Nancy Ann Harper Fisher was a resident of Saint John and New River Beach in New Brunswick, and New Smyrna Beach in Florida. A graduate of Saint John High School and Syracuse University, New York, Ms. Fisher worked in provincial health departments in New Brunswick, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia. Upon her return to Saint John in the 1980s, she worked as a private consultant in health information systems until her retirement.
As a lifelong philanthropist, Ms. Fisher generously volunteered her time and talent to many worthy causes while quietly giving grants to charities serving her communities. Throughout her life, and particularly in her professional career, she recognized the needs and opportunities in the two New Brunswick communities that were dearest to her heart.
In 2015, the estate of the late Nancy Ann Harper Fisher donated $1.5 million to The Community Foundation. The bequest marked the largest donation from an individual The Community Foundation has received in it over 40-year history. In recognition of her tremendous generosity, an endowment fund was created within our Community Fund, now known as The Nancy Ann Harper Fisher Fund.
This named fund is a testament to her love of community, and will have a significant impact in Greater Saint John for many years to come.
